Parading Around Prague

Ahoj!

A few years ago, during my 5 week excursion around Europe, I got the chance to visit Prague, Czech Republic for about 3 days and I LOVED it!! Its such a beautiful place with amazing architecture, beautiful history, and easily became my favorite place!

Where We Stayed

There are multiple hotels all around Prague that you can stay at. We opted to go with the Ibis Praha Old Town Hotel (you can check it out here) and stayed at an Ibis Hotel for the majority of our road trip.

St. Charles’ Bridge from the shores of the Vltava River

One of the many positives of this hotel, was that it also served breakfast, so it was one less meal we had to pay for while walking around town.

It was a beautiful place to stay that was within walking distance of all the sights to see, a mall, and plenty of places to eat!

Places to See

  • Astronomical Clock – This was one of my favorite sights and it really just sits on a wall next to the Old Town Hall. At the top of every hour, the clock puts on a little “show,” so hundreds of people gather around for it! At night is probably the best time to go get some pictures or just spend quiet time looking at it, since there aren’t so many people out.

  • New Praha
  • St. Charles Bridge – The St. Charles Bridge started being constructed in the 1300s and contains over 30 Baroque statues along the sides. We got the chance to check it out at night and during the day! During the day, there are a lot of vendors that line the bridge to sell you all of the touristy souvenirs. At night, its beautifully lit up and there aren’t too many people walking around, but there are some homeless that hang around this area, just be aware.

  • Gothic Church of Our Lady Before Tyn
  • Prague Castle – This castle was built in the 9th century and is situated right next to St. George’s Basilica. The walk up to the castle can get a little tiring, since its up on a hill, but the views are 100% worth it!

You can climb the millions of stairs to go up a tower to get different views of the city and around the castle. We just climbed one of the towers and looked into the church, but didn’t spend too much time up there or go inside. We did walk from the hotel to the castle and that took us around near the St. Charles Bridge and the river. No matter where you walk, you’re always going to have some amazing views!!

  • Old Town Square – A beautiful square in the middle of this big city that contains the Astronomical Clock, the Gothic Church of Our Lady Before Tyn, and plenty of cafés, bars, and restaurants. They also host festivals and market type events at different times during the year, unfortunately there weren’t any the time I was there. But, you can get an amazing view of the square, church, and the city going up the tower of Old Town Hall.
  • Dancing House
  • Prasna Brana
  • Sedlec Ossuary (Bone Church) – A very different Roman Catholic Chapel located outside of Prague (about an hour drive east) that is made of 40,000 bones. The chapel itself is situated underneath the Cemetery Church of All Saints, which is kind of plain compared to this place.
It was a different kind of beautiful and definitely on my list of things to see if you’re up for the drive or seeing human bones. The chapel isn’t made of bones itself, but they are all formed into different arrangements throughout the church.

What To Eat/Drink

Prague was the first place we tried Absinthe…lets just say I am already terrible at taking shots, so taking that as a shot…well…it did not go well. Our server and all of us got a pretty good laugh about it!

If you don’t know what Absinthe is, its a HIGHLY alcoholic liquor that is properly drank once its mixed with a sugar cube lit on fire and stirred into the drink (we didn’t know this until we went to Amsterdam).

Food Options:
Clock Caffe (VERY delicious meal with great drinks — get the steak — and right across from the Astronomical Clock, so great views of that!)
Double Trouble (bar with a good dancing atmosphere)
Kremrole (a delicious puff pastry dessert that is filled with cream that you can get at vendors or restaurants while walking around…SO yummy!)

You can check out our trip from Prague here!

Every place we went to in Prague was just amazing. The culture was so lively, the city and sights were breathtaking ,and I will definitely be returning some day!

From Prague, we went to Salzburg, Austria as we continued our European road trip!

It was wonderful to read about your trip to Prague. It looks wonderful and beautiful. Did you just go there?? Lucky you!! Hope you have a wonderful Easter with your friends or are you on lockdown to.??? This is not fun and have not been able to see Grandpa in 4 weeks. I miss him something terrible and many nights cry myself to sleep being so lonely without him. Thank God I can at least talk on the phone with him but its just not the same. I just want a big hug and kiss from him. In almost 59 years we have never been apart this long. Hope and Pray that this virus will soon be a thing of the past and we can get back to our normal lives. Take care Jenny and I think of you every day..
Love U Grandma & Grandpa to.. xoxoxoxo
