Happy Birthday America!

Hello again!

It has been over a month since I’ve moved to this beautiful place and I am absolutely loving every minute!

Home Sweet Home

I FINALLY got all my stuff delivered for my apartment and got settled in. Most of the past couple weeks consisted of unpacking and building different furniture that I had bought, since I didn’t really come here with much!

I’m still trying to figure out how to decorate and what I should add, so maybe the pictures below will help you help me! Please?

I love my apartment and where its located…aka less than a mile (.7 miles to be exact) from the beach! Its so great! I’ve walked there a couple of times and looking to get a bike soon!

Events

I’ve gotten the chance to go out a couple of times with some of my new friends from the squadron and have had a blast!

First time we went out, we went and got some very delicious Korean food, then went to The Blue Note to hear Andrew McMahon play! It was an awesome concert! After that, we went to an Irish bar just down the street and listened to some live music.

A few days later, I met up with an old friend from Embry Riddle and some of his friends to go to the Hawaii Music and Fashion Festival! It was definitely an experience with some beautiful clothes and even got to hear some great island music, such as from Kolohe Kai (go check out some of his stuff)!

After my first roll call with the squadron, I met up with a group of us copilots out at a place called the Brewseum. It was an old war museum with a secret speakeasy at the top, but its pretty small and is only open a certain couple of hours.

New Friends

Following the Brewseum, we went to Honolulu Beerworks to grab a drink and some food (the pretzels are BOMB)!

Then, to end at least my night, we went to a speakeasy above Aloha Beer Company and just hung out. It was so great to spend time and get to know more people and experience more in downtown!

Adventures

A couple of weekends ago, I went hiking with a couple of my friends on the Kuliouou Ridge Trail. The views were AMAZING!

  • A little over a 4 mile hike
  • Approx. 1800ft elevation
  • Plenty of stairs
  • Could be super muddy if after a rain
  • Plenty of shade, except near the top

Then, on the 4th of July, a group of us went and rented kayaks for part of the day and kayaked out to Nā Mokulua (otherwise known as The Mokes), which is just two islands that sit right off the coast of Kailua.

Go check out Kailua Beach Adventures here for renting the kayaks we used! They also do tours as well if that’s what interests you!

They’re known for being bird sanctuaries, so we only went to one of the islands, but there was an interesting friend that was taking a nap there!

We hiked on the rocks around to another side of the island to this small pool where some of our friends jumped from higher rocks and the rest of us sane people just swam around enjoying the water! The whole trip was amazing!

We all met up later and grilled out/played catch phrase while waiting for the fireworks to start! Needless to say, it was a great 4th of July!

Farmers Market Finds

There’s a farmers market that is right down the street from my apartment every Sunday. I’ve been twice after church and its such a great experience, with such great food!

I’ve been able to find plenty of fruits and vegetables, flowers, and even a delicious crepe and superfood smoothie!

Makes me drool just thinking about waiting for another Sunday! And I can’t wait to check out other farmers markets as well around the island!

Update on Life

I’ve done a few simulators just to get back warmed up with flying and running checklists in the jet to get ready to fly very soon! I cannot wait! Its been since March, so i’m beyond ready!

I hope you all enjoyed this post and if there is something more specific you would like to see, please let me know! I’m so grateful for all of you and I couldn’t have made it this far without your support!

Aloha!
