Hiking in Hallstatt

On this European adventure a few summers ago, we made a stop for the night in the beautiful, little town of Hallstatt, Austria. It’s set in the middle of the mountains right by a small lake and looks like a town that would be in a fairytale story!

Where to Stay

We arrived and checked into our very cute cabin (you can check out the website for them here) that was just across the lake from the city of Hallstatt. You have beautiful views of the mountains no matter the direction you’re in, so each cabin is perfect! Plus, they include a small kitchen, living room, and each cabin ranges from how many bedrooms you need.

Hiking

After we got settled in, we put on our hiking clothes and set out on the hike up to the 5 Fingers (which we didn’t end up making it to…it was a really long hike and it was getting dark)! It was pretty much us climbing up on gravel roads that had an insane incline! We struggled at some points climbing up and wondered how cars got up there!

There were plenty of spots that are perfect for pictures and I was just using my Go-Pro for most of the trip (in case you were wondering)! You can see some of our pictures below!

The hike was really beautiful, but so tiring! Eventually, we made it to a point and ended up meeting a group of people that were staying in a cabin up on the mountain! They were awesome and graciously offered us some beer, which we did not hesitate to say yes! The beer was SO needed and so was a nice break to just hang out!

Our New Friends!

It started getting dark, so we decided to head out, said our good-byes to our new friends, and hiked back down the mountain! Or more so, slid down the mountain, since we fell so much!

Five Fingers

After some much needed rest, we woke up the next day, and headed back up the mountain, but this time it was on the tram!

View from Five Fingers

Five Fingers offers some of the most amazing views of the mountains i’ve ever seen! If you ever find yourself in this area, be sure to take the tram up, you will NOT be disappointed! But, be sure to wear at least tennis shoes, because there is a little bit of a walk from the tram to where Five Fingers actually is!

Hallstatt on the left side of the lake

You’ll meet some cool friends along the way too!

New Friends

As it was time to head out, we checked out of our cabin and went into town to get some food and walk around to see the shops. The city of Hallstatt is pretty touristy (which is surprising), but still adorable nonetheless!

If you ever get a chance to go, DO IT! I promise you won’t be disappointed! I would like to go back someday and go possibly in the winter! There’s skiing down that mountain and the city looks BEAUTIFUL (and yes, more beautiful than I’ve already said)!

City of Hallstatt

Just google it if you don’t believe me! Or you can just check out the video from our trip here!

Anyways, if you’ve ever been to Hallstatt or even Austria, let me know! I want to hear your stories so I have new places to put on my Bucket List! Feel free to comment below with any questions/comments!
