One of my very favorite Georgia State Parks!
My family and I, as well as other family friends, have been coming to this state park for over 10 years and have loved every minute of it. It was normally always tradition that we would go over New Years, so that is typically the time we go.
The weather has ranged from really cold (where we would need to be bundled up tight) to so warm we could wear tank tops and go kayaking. Even if you don’t go around the time that we normally do, I promise it will be great coastal weather (even if it rains).
Skidaway State Park allows for you to either camp, stay in a cabin, or to just visit for the day (costs $5) and explore the many trails it has to offer! The campsites are all big, open spots and the cabins are quaint with room for about a small family. Also, this campground now allows for you to reserve a specific spot in the park (one of few GA State Parks that now participate), so that way you and the big group of friends you bring are able to all get spots together!
From the beautiful spanish moss to the beautiful views of the marsh Skidaway Island has to be one of the most beautiful state parks.
If you’re not looking to stick around the campground all day, Skidaway Island is close to Savannah where its easy to spend the whole day there, Wormsloe State Historic Site, Fort Pulaski, or even Tybee Island if you want to spend time at the beach!
(If you choose to go to Tybee Island though, you HAVE to go to the Pink Place by the pier, called Fannies on the Beach –> GET THE CRAB CAKE SANDWICH!)
I know that I totally fell in love with this campground and will forever want to go back. Just thinking about it now makes me at least want to go camping.
Before I leave you to keep exploring my site, if you do choose to go during New Years, Tybee Island hosts a Polar Plunge that I have been a part of numerous years in a row! The water is freezing, but you make some wonderful memories with your family and friends! Plenty of people participate and even get dressed up in crazy costumes! Check out the Tybee Post Theater website if you decide that you want to go!!
